Baked Fish Filets and Tartar Sauce Recipe

A simple dinner for those nights when you need something fast! Fish thaws quickly and cooks rapidly. This Tartar sauce is based on home made mayonnaise cultured, loaded with nutrients and big on flavor.

Yes, you may notice the bit missing from the edge Little Man strikes again. 🙂 Thats what I get for leaving my plate unattended!
Quick Tartar Sauce, Classic Tartar Sauce, whatever you want to call it- it is simple, fast, easy and real food based- I combined a few recipes used common ingredients and it worked well for us!

  • 1 cup homemade mayo (see how to here)- this batch was 1/2 olive oil and 1/2 coconut oil, cultured
  • 4 T dill pickles, purchased (like this one)or home made, relish or minced pickles both work
  • 1 T onion powder or minced onion (like this one)
  • 2 T lemon juice, fresh squeezed in nice, but if you cant swing that- get a real quality juice (like this one)
  • real salt and pepper to taste

Blend ingredients with a whisk or spoon. The flavors develop if you can let it sit for 30 minutes or so, but weve eaten it immediately after mixing and its very good! This also makes a great spread for sandwiches or sauce for chicken. 🙂

Baked Fish Fillets:

I used a firm white fish fillet- cod, halibut, sole, etc I dont know my fish as well as I should so I suggest asking your meat guy if youre unsure. And if you dont have a meat guy- you should definitely find one- they can hook you up with all kinds of goodies that other (strange people 🙂 ) throw away, like fish heads and bones and internal organs!

For my fish- I didnt even thaw it 😉 Just put the frozen fillets in a 913 glass dish, sprinkled it with some lemon juice (fresh squeezed is best) and some seasoned salt and cracked pepper. 🙂 Bake at 375* for about 20-25 minutes- when the fish flakes easily with a fork. frozen fillets help to 🙂 Fish is the easiest meat to test for done-ness! 🙂

Serve fish with tartar sauce over it.

Also, baked fish fillets are a fantastic way to cook in your solar oven! Put the fillets in the solar oven pans instead of 913 and cook. Fish tends to cook more quickly than other meats or soups in the solar oven (also nice if you forgot to prep and plan something).
